Wong Kei.

Good food, decent prices, extremely awful service.

Re: Chinese Restaurant Recommendations?
Apparently, the service is a lot better these days.

My mates parents sold their share in the Wong Kei a few years ago and apparently it has changed a fair bit- not been there for ages though- was always good value getting abused by the waiters before pissed up diners could have a pop at them. I remember a bunch of pissed up coppers being chased out by a couple of chefs with meat cleavers!

Whichever one you choose, if there are Chinese customers you HAVE to turn to whoever is with you and say 'that's a good sign'

Yi Ban - opposite city airport. Not too far from central either, DLR is right next to it. Lovely food in there and is always busy with tiddlys. A good sign of any Chinese restraunt in my eyes.

Don't get so pissed-up that you try and stab the food with the chopsticks as you are incapable of using them the normal way.

I speak from experience.

Re: Chinese Restaurant Recommendations?
I loved Wong Kei when I went there, must have been 1995 ish?

Arrived to have a waiter shout at us 'you go upstairs!' and when we got up there another shouted 'you go downstairs!'

When we finally got sat down one came to take our order and as he approached the table a guy on the table just in front of ours leaned out to get his attention to be told 'you wait your flucking turn!'

Loved it, if it's all poshed up now that's tragic. Apparently they were known for chasing you out if you left a rubbish tip, not that we saw that.

The best Chinese (ALAN) by far in London is CHINA TANG in the Dorchester Hotel.

Re: Chinese Restaurant Recommendations?
The gaff up the shard is miles better than the Dorchester gaff.

Stick to GREAT WALL you brexit.

Re: Chinese Restaurant Recommendations?
If we are talking about Essex ALAN's then as a TAKE-AWAY there is no better than GREAT WALL in Gidea Park (note it doesn't deliver and still is always busy).

For a SIT DOWN ALAN then the best by far is MANDARIN PALACE in Hornchurch.

Davers you wish you was as experienced as me in the ALAN department.

i miss the glory days of mr wu off leicester square. £3.50 all you can eat, every dish was swimming in onions that you had to fish through to get to what you wanted, massive queue of london's miscellany who generally occupy the bottom wrung of the social ladder, digging their elbows in if you spend more than five seconds getting your sweet and sour pork gristle. 50% chance of salmonella or similar.

If you’re taking the lady out you could do a lot worse than Royal China at Canary Wharf and then jump on the riverboat to Embankment if you need to be in the middle of it all later on.

Ask for the Specials menu (normally only given to Chinese)

Lobster in ginger on soft noodle or Sea bass

Re: Chinese Restaurant Recommendations?
Ginger lobsters? Very on trend.

My local does a mean brunette starfish , with a little tiny mullet. Very exotic & culinary type of shit. They also do a Vermicelli Trout with 90's style curtains.
